Product Review: Krave Bars

If you think low carb protein bar, you'd probably have the regular brands in mind, like Quest or Victory bars. But that's not all that's out there folks. Broaden your horizon and you will encounter many more possibilities that are just as good (if not better)

One of those are Krave Protein bars by Pure Fitness Nutrition. Their aim is to create high quality supplements with natural ingredients that deliver.
The product line currently holds 2 products:

- Pre-Workout
- Protein bars

We had the opportunity the try the protein bars, available in 5 flavors, and we tried 2 of them:

Chocolate Fudge Brownie

Being the chocolate addicts that we are, we had high expectations. Especially since a lot of the low carb chocolate flavored protein bars taste more like licorice fudge because if the use of stevia. This bar doesn't contain stevia (thank God) but erythritol as a sweetener. But the second ingredient is a more interesting one: blue agave inulin. Inulin is also known as a fructan, and has minimal impact on blood sugar, since the body (almost) cannot process it.
Honestly though, we're not big fans of anything with agave in it, bu that's a personal choice.

The bar is like a soft baked bar, and has pieces of peanut and chocolate chips in it, but somehow the taste is also more licorice-like, as with stevia. We expected more chocolate flavor, and were a bit disappointed.
Taste rating: 3/5

Raw Cookie Dough

It certainly looks like cookie dough, with visible chocolate chips in it.

The taste is less licorice like than the brownie, and does indeed reminds you of cookie dough.
Taste rating: 4/5

Protein Pudding

The protein recipe below forms the base of many possibilities and options, but it starts with 3 simple ingredients. Make sure you make this recipe at least 2 hours beforehand, so it has time to set in the fridge.

In addition to the base ingredients, you can add things like peanut butter, cinnamon, cocoa powder, PB2, coffee or top it with syrups or even honey. The options are basically endless.

For 1 serving, you get the following;
Does it look pretty? No. Is it good? Yes.

The reason why we use sheets, is that they dissolve & mix easier in liquid, but you can also use 4 grams of gelatin powder
1 scoop (about 30 grams) of whey protein
250 ml (cup) water (or milk)

Soak the sheets in a small layer of cold water for a few minutes. In the meantime, mix the water and whey protein together and warm it up in a saucepan, but keep the heat low, do not boil! Take the sheets out of the water and add to the protein mix. Take it off the heat and stir well. The sheets should dissolve almost immediately. Pour into a bowl and let it set in the fridge.

Crossfit Apparel: RedBubble

Part of being a crossfitter, is the crossfit outfit (for most of us) It might start with a pair of high socks, but soon the shoes, shorts and shirts follow. There are loads of companies out there today that make all sorts of crossfit gear & accessories.

This time we'll highlight a less obvious one; RedBubble.

This website allows artists to upload their artwork, and have their designs printed on t-shirts, phone covers, mugs, etc. It's a great opportunity to create an original clothing item for example, knowing that you'll be one of the few people having the exact same design on the same item.

You can search for any type of topic or keyword in the category of your choice, and of course we looked for "crossfit" in the t-shirts & hoodies department. There are numerous results, both graphics & text, and in the end we picked 2 designs. Ordering was simple and shipping was surprisingly low; $5.21 to Europe for 2 shirts! They arrived within 10 days, and looked great:

A label attached with the name of the designer

The quality is a nice cotton and the prints are done well, and look and feel they will last for quite some time.

If you're looking for some original threads to expand your crossfit collection with, RedBubble is a nice place to start!

Protein Cereal Crunch

If you like to experiment a little with protein recipes, this might be something you'd like to try. A high protein, crunchy cereal for either breakfast or snack.
Total time to make this is no more than 15 minutes, with a surprising result. All you need:

1 Oh Yeah! Victory Bar - any flavor, but in this recipe it's Chocolate Chip
rolling pin
cutting board
knife
baking paper
oven

Cut the bar in half, and with the rolling pin, flatten the pieces out to about the size of an iPhone. Next, cut them in small squares. Heat the oven to 180C(350F) and spread the pieces out on a piece of baking paper. Bake in the oven for about 4
minutes, let them cool and store in an airtight container.
Eat with almond milk or protein pudding for example.
