Quest Bar Pumpkin Pie Review

This review is probably going to be ending up at the bottom of the pile, since there have been already a LOT of reviews on the latest (and limited) addition to the Quest Bar collection.

Quest Bar Pumpkin Pie Review
When they announced "Something new is coming" I couldn't help and roll my eyes a bit and say: Let me guess, a pumpkin pie flavor?

Nonetheless, I decided to give it my 2 cents (for what it's worth)

Quest Bar Cult(ure)

There are a lot of people out there that absolutely love Quest bars, and I used to be one of those people. Quest Nutrition provided a very clean, low carb, high protein bar, that was relatively revolutionary. In addition to great macros, it also contained a lot of fibre.

But to me, there was always something a little bit "off" with the taste, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. In the end, I think it's the taste of stevia that puts me off personally. Stevia and I don't get along, and that's ok.

So when MusclePharm came out with their version of the low carb bar that had the same macros, I was absolutely ecstatic (still am actually)
IMHO, they nailed it with texture, flavor and crunch. However, their sweetner of choice is maltitol, and in some camps this is not considered as low carb as it's claimed to be.

Yes, I'm biased, but I believe the Combat Cruch bar is threatening to surpass Quest Bar very soon.

Quest Bar Pumpkin Pie

So when I saw the new bar, I wasn't at all surprised on how it looked. People describe the texture as crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle. Sounds familiar to me!

Then I buckled and ordered a box. It arrived and I did a taste test.
Could this be the turnaround? Reinstate my relationship with Quest Bar?

Quest Bar Pumpkin Pie Review

Yes, it's a coated bar and yes, it has a crunch (graham cracker apparently) It's a bit crumbly, but a nice change from the regular Quest Bars. The bar is chewy, but not as chewy as the regular ones. More on that later on.

To my taste, it's too sweet, and I can't really distinguish the pumpkin, but perhaps that is because pumpkin is not in my culture as much. There is a weird aftertaste to it that I can't put my finger on, that lingers just a bit too long.

Recently, Quest switched over to soluble corn fiber, most likely to make the bars softer, but also because in the past, Quest has been sued for not providing the right label contents (carbs, fiber)

Perhaps this can be a result of the change in taste, since soluble corn fiber also provides sweetness to the bar as well.

To conclude

Not my thing. I have 11 more bars to go, will probably eat them at some point of give them away, but won't order again.

Still in the Quest Cult(ure)? Order them here:
